To Be In the Basketball Game
Inspired By "To Be In Love'' By Gwendolyn Brooks
To be in the basketball game
Is to dribble the ball in your hands.
In yourself you think, you are good.
You look around
Through the ball.
The fans dress in red.
A player is blue.
Suddenly there's no one there with you.
They're not there but
You know they will be coming back
The dribbles, or the light throw.
The ball taking you in the air.
Too much to bear.
You can't throw
Because you are too scared
What must not be done.
When the ball
Shuts itself- It's not there-
Your arms are shaky.
And the ball is free
With a burst of freedom.
You are half a throw
Of a broken tear
You remember and get back to the game
To dribble, to throw along
Oh when to Care!
It's a certain shadow
Oh when to jump back
It needs to be mesmerize,
To jump, the column of cheer,
Into the arms of the shouting fans
