Signature Projects are academically rigorous applied learning projects that are a hallmark of School to Career practice in Boston. Signature Projects are characterized by the six A's:

...and by the nine School to Career Competencies:

O’Bryant School Web Site
The O’Bryant High School has an updated website thanks to the Web Master students. This project proves that rigorous classroom activities improve knowledge and skills in many areas!

School to Career Pathway Video
Video Production students participate in the design and development of a year-long interdisciplinary unit on video production in collaboration with Mass Interaction. The result is a video that explains School to Career pathways.

Westie Water Wars
Television I and Accelerated Chemistry students explore an interdisciplinary year-long unit on water, responsible citizenry and using new media to promote the construction of viable communities. The project uses a service learning methodology.

Business, Finance and Marketing

Business Plan (NFTE)
Students develop an original idea for a business. They assess need, conduct market research and create a marketing plan. Costs are researched and used as a determinate for a selling price and to produce an income statement and financial ratios.

One in a Million Class Fund
This project involves the creation of a class fund, which is handled much like a mutual fund. Students raise money and sell stock certificates. They then monitor their portfolio and report progress to investors.

ETA/City Build - Mary Baker Eddy Library Entryway Structural Design
This collaborative project allows students to have a better understanding of various concepts related to structural engineering and construction technology.

Environmental and Agricultural Science

From pH to Parkland
This service learning project is part of a year-long partnership with Urban Ecology Institute which provides teacher training, equipment, chaperones and other support for teachers to conduct authentic water quality and bird biodiversity studies.

Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation

Books and Bookings
Books and Bookings is an interdisciplinary project linking American literature and the Travel and Tourism Industry classes at East Boston High School. Students read and study Boston area authors while using technology to book reservations, experience tourist destinations, and ultimately create their own tours and act as tour guides.

Children’s Books - Read Them! Share Them! Write Them!
This project builds a community of readers! High school students work with young children and college students and improve writing, reading, technology and presentation skills in the process.

Law, Government and Public Service

Codman Square Lead Contamination Initiative
This project explores issues brought forth by lead contamination in the soil in the area surrounding the high school. Students explore the health-related illnesses due to exposure to lead and even travel to the State House to meet with state representatives concerned with this issue.

Information Technology and Engineering

Narrowing the Digital Divide by Building Computers
The primary goal of the project is to teach the students how to upgrade and build a computer from recycled parts in order to bring the computer home, thereby raising the number of computers found in inner city homes and narrowing the digital divide.

Tech Assist - Helping Schools Help Themselves
Students become proficient in resolving problems that degrade the functionality of computer labs in this service learning project. Because TechAssist communication, instruction, training, and work are all customer-centered and dynamic in nature, this translates into authentic school-to-career empowerment.
